The new product line designed by Gensler revolutionizes the guest-to-room interface by combining smart control, aesthetic modularity, and waste reduction, with development and production entirely Made in Italy.
Pordenone, October 16, 2025 – The global technology group VDA Telkonet, headquartered in Pordenone and operating worldwide in the fields of Guest Room Management Systems (GRMS) and Energy Management Systems (EMS) for the hospitality industry, has been included among the winners of the ADI Design Index 2025—the annual selection that anticipates nominations for the prestigious Compasso d’Oro Award.
The award was granted to Nova Smart Switch, a new product line that combines thermostat and smart switch functions, recognized for its ability to integrate technology, design, and sustainability. The award ceremony took place in Milan on October 15, at the ADI Design Museum.
From Friuli to the hotels of the world, Nova Smart Switch—designed by the international architecture firm Gensler—embodies global compatibility and intuitive design. The device fits the main international standards of wall boxes, can be installed easily, and operates via wired or wireless connection. It allows intuitive control of access, lighting, and temperature, simplifying the interaction between guests and hotel environments.
Its interchangeable multi-material finishes—available in polycarbonate, metal, glass, or custom wood—enhance its versatility, enabling aesthetic upgrades over time while reducing waste and electronic disposal, thus extending the product’s lifecycle.
Entirely engineered and manufactured in Italy, Nova Smart Switch complements VDA Telkonet’s offering, bridging hotel room automation (GRMS) and energy optimization systems (EMS) that contribute to reducing CO₂ emissions and integrating seamlessly into any architectural space.
“Being selected by the ADI Design Index is an important confirmation of our journey toward truly people-centric innovation and our vision of experiential design,” says Piercarlo Gramaglia, CEO of VDA Telkonet.
“We believe the future of hospitality will be increasingly guided not only by data but, above all, by listening to people—the guests, the hoteliers, and the entire ecosystem of partners and stakeholders driving the industry forward. Our goal is to act as a Made in Italy hub of expertise and research, anticipating hospitality trends and supporting our clients in delivering a more personalized and sustainable guest experience.”
This recognition crowns a year of achievements for the company. Last June, VDA Telkonet received the “Imprese per Innovazione” Award from Confindustria, distinguishing itself among the 12 most innovative Italian SMEs for originality in products, processes, and business models.
This milestone strengthens the positioning of a company with local roots and a global vision, providing tailor-made hospitality solutions through 100% Made in Italy know-how and a dedicated R&D team of over 40 engineers.
With over 90 years of combined experience and 1 million smart rooms installed in 60 countries VDA Telkonet stands today as a leading observatory on international hospitality trends, combining technology, design, and project culture to improve the relationship between people and spaces.
